Concours 3D3

Each year, students, designers, authors and technicians around the world receive training and become proficient users of 3DIVA Virtools, a software platform for creating interactive real-time 3D environments.
In order to highlight such training programs and student work, ART3000 – Le Cube and Virtools organized the first 3D3 competition ("3D cube") in 2004, to applaud the technical and artistic prowess of the best projects made by graduating students.
3D3 contest follows three goals :
- encouraging the alliance between students and professionnals
- lauding exploration of new forms of expression using real-time 3D
- breaking barriers between the fields of artistic creation and cultural production.
The competition welcomes students 3DVIA Virtools projects produced as part of any public or private training program that delivers a full diploma.

Real-time 3D creation
Well-known in the world of video games, real-time 3D systems become widespread in many sectors : industrial and architectural visualization, communication, or artistic production with interactive installation and fiction. These systems permit to make 3D worlds with, for example, complex behavioral characters. The viewer is immersed in a coherent environment that he can interact with.
For a short decade, some authoring softwares appeared on the market, and permetted to realise reat-time 3D environments with complex behavioral engine.
Virtools, launched in Paris in 1999, is the most open and general tool in this domain.
More than 200 schools and universities have already a formation to this software, teaching each year the future creators and technicians in this important creative field.
The digital creation center of Issy-les-Moulineaux City, The Cube, organized 3D3 contest with Virtools in 2004 in order to discover and to encourage young talents from 3DVIA Virtools teaching, and to laud exploration of new ways of expression using real-time 3D.
About 30 projects coming from french and international universities (Europe, USA, Australia…) were in the running for the 2009 issue.
